Quentin Blake
Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake maake a perfect partnership of words
and illustrations.
Sir Quentin Blake was born on the 16 December 1932.
He is a famous English illustrator, cartoonist and children's
author.
He began working with Dahl in 1976. His most
famous sketches can be found in Willy Wonka, Matilda
and the BFG.
Quentin Blake couldn´t decide what to put on the feet
of the BFG. Heavy boots seemed wrong. A few days later Roald Dahl sent him one of his own battered old sandals and Quentin thought it was perfect for the BFG.
First Quentin would prepare lots of sketches and then he would show them to Roald Dahl to get his opinion. Roald Dahl loves his books stuffed with pictures. When working on the BFG Quenton Blake ended up doing twice as many illustrations than what he was originally told.

Illustrator Quentin Blake on how he draws
Here is an interesting video of Quentin Blake made by the BBC. In it, we see
David Walliams, the famous chidren’s author, talking about Blake’s
illustrations for his books. Quentin Blake is now eighty years old but he still
seems quite lively and energetic. We see his unusual illustrations for “Candide”
by Voltaire and he also says that he has decorated hospitals and medical centres
to cheer up the patients. His drawings come from inside, he says, he does not
copy them from life.
